Nintendo has launched a new survey to gauge the opinions of its Switch 2 users on buying digital games versus physical copies. The survey aims to understand the reasons behind purchasing one format over the other and whether attitudes towards digital downloads have shifted over time.
The questions begin by asking how many Switch games users have bought in the past year, including resold titles. It then asks which format they prefer: physical or digital. Users can choose from a range of options, from “strongly prefer physical” to “strongly prefer digital.”
Respondents are also asked why they might prefer a physical copy over a digital download. Common reasons include owning the game outright, being able to sell it easily, and being able to share it with household members. The collectible nature of boxed games and additional items like Steelbook cases are also mentioned.
The survey then inquires about users’ openness to buying digital games over time, seeking insight into whether they have become more or less open to the format. It also asks for preferences on purchasing methods, including physical cartridges with the “full game” included and Game-Key cards that allow for digital downloads.
Nintendo’s survey is available online, allowing all Switch 2 users to share their thoughts on the matter.
