Switch overtakes PS2 as US’s Second-Best Selling Console

The Nintendo Switch has surpassed the PlayStation 2 to become the second-best-selling gaming hardware in the United States, with lifetime unit sales reaching 46.6 million, according to Circana’s November video game sales report. However, it trails only the Nintendo DS, which is currently leading with over 7 million more units sold.

The Switch still accounts for significant sales, but its growth has slowed down. In November, it ranked second in terms of unit and dollar sales behind the PS5, followed by Xbox Series consoles. Overall hardware spending remained flat, with PlayStation sales increasing by 15% year-over-year, while Xbox Series sales dropped by 29%, while Switch sales decreased by 3%.

The PS5 Pro played a crucial role in driving sales for the PS5, accounting for 19% of all unit sales and 28% of dollar sales. The launch of the PS5 Pro Pro was also successful, with dollar sales exceeding those of the PS4 Pro’s launch month by over 50%, although unit sales were lower.

In contrast, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 remained the best-selling game this month, followed by EA Sports College Football 25 and Mario & Luigi: Brothership. The top-selling games include titles from popular franchises such as Super Mario, Madden NFL, and Dragon Ball, with some notable mentions including Pokémon TCG Pocket, which was the second-best-selling mobile game in the US.

Overall, the gaming market continues to evolve, with shifting sales trends and emerging trends reflecting changes in consumer behavior.
