Switzerland to Consider Holding Bitcoin in Central Bank Reserves

A Swiss federal chancellery initiative has proposed changing the law to require the Swiss National Bank (SNB) to hold part of its reserves in gold and bitcoin. Backed by 10 individuals, including cryptocurrency advocates, the plan aims to collect 100,000 signatures within 18 months for a public referendum. This would make Switzerland one of the first countries to consider holding bitcoin as a reserve asset. The SNB has previously expressed skepticism about cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, with its chairman stating his concerns last month. If successful, this move could set a precedent in the financial industry and spark interest in other central banks to follow suit.
