T-Mobile’s Default Screen Recording Feature Raises Privacy Concerns

T-Mobile has enabled its “Screen recording tool” feature by default in the T-Life app, sparking concerns over customer privacy. The feature allows users to record their screen activity within the app, raising questions about data collection and usage.

To disable the feature, go to the T-Life app’s Settings (gear icon) > Preferences, then tap on the toggle switch to turn it gray. The description explains that the company will review and analyze user data to improve the app’s experience, but this can be turned off at any time.

T-Mobile defends the new feature as a tool for troubleshooting reported issues within the app, ensuring customers have a smoother experience. However, critics argue that enabling the feature by default is suspicious, given its potential for data collection and misuse.

Interestingly, T-Mobile has a similar separate screen recording feature, “Screen Share,” which requires user consent before an expert can view their phone’s screen during troubleshooting. This feature provides users with more control over their data sharing in support situations.
