T-Mobile’s Starlink Service Launch Complicated by New Sign-up Process

T-Mobile has launched its cellular Starlink service today, but a new sign-up process for non-T-Mobile customers may complicate access for consumers on rival carriers like AT&T and Verizon. The service, called T-Satellite, is still available to these customers for $10 per month through an online portal. However, T-Mobile now requires non-customers to call 1-888-781-6103 or visit a Retail store to sign up.

The change was made to prevent confusion around the setup process and to allow T-Mobile to better explain the technology to less knowledgeable consumers. The service is currently limited to text messaging and location sharing, supporting around 60 phone models dating back to 2021.

T-Mobile has been promoting its Starlink service as a way for customers to switch plans and save at least 20% compared to AT&T and Verizon. The company had previously faced significant interest from consumers during the free beta period, with nearly 2 million users testing the service over six months.

As expected, non-T-Mobile customers who signed up for the beta trial will still receive free access until September 30, after which they’ll be required to pay $10 per month. The new sign-up process may also steer users toward upgrading their plans and switching to T-Mobile.
