Taiwan Mall Gas Blast Kills Four, Injures 26 People

A gas explosion at a department store in Taiwan’s Taichung city has killed at least four people and injured 26. The blast occurred on the 12th floor of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi building, where construction work was taking place.

The explosion caused damage from the ninth floor up and affected tourists who were in the food court area, which was closed due to construction. Two of those injured were from Macau, a popular gambling destination.

One of the injured is being treated in intensive care, according to the health ministry. Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te has called for a speedy investigation into the cause of the blast.

The incident occurred on Thursday, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the explosion.
