Take-Two CEO: GTA 6 Release Date Won’t Be Announced Early

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has shed light on Grand Theft Auto VI’s (GTA 6) release date, stating that the company wants to maintain anticipation and excitement for the highly anticipated game. In a video interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick discussed GTA 6, saying that fans have shown the “greatest anticipation” he’s ever seen.

Zelnick attributed this high level of anticipation to Rockstar Games’ approach to releasing new titles. Unlike some competitors who announce their release dates years in advance, Rockstar prefers to keep fans waiting. This strategy allows for more effective marketing and creates a sense of excitement around the game’s launch.

GTA 6 was announced in December 2023 and is set to be released this year on consoles. The game takes place in modern-day Vice City, modeled after Miami and South Florida, with two protagonists, including the series’ first female lead. A PC version has not been confirmed yet but is expected if it launches.

Zelnick highlighted Rockstar’s approach, citing the success of Grand Theft Auto V as an example. The game’s success in three console generations demonstrates the high bar set by the company and its commitment to quality over quantity. By balancing anticipation with a lengthy development period, Take-Two aims to maintain fan excitement for GTA 6.
