Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6’s (GTA 6) recent delay was less than six months. He made the statement while speaking to CNBC, saying that the game’s new release date is May 26, 2026. This suggests that the original release window for GTA 6 was likely in late November or December 2025. Zelnick expressed confidence that the game will not be delayed again, stating “Generally, when we announce a date, we’re able to hit that date.” The CEO attributed the delay to Rockstar’s ambitious goal of creating something truly special, which takes time.
Zelnick also revealed that he is not a gamer himself, but shares his opinions on game designs and concepts. As Take-Two’s CEO, his role is to attract, motivate, and retain top talent in the gaming industry. The studio has reportedly been working on ports of GTA 4 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as Red Dead Redemption II for Switch 2.
The recent delay for GTA 6 was not unexpected, given the game development cycle for Rockstar games. Zelnick’s statement provides reassurance to fans that the wait will be worth it, but also acknowledges the challenges of creating a truly exceptional gaming experience.
