Taking an Ice Bath After Weight Training May Not Be Best Choice

A new study published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise has found that taking an ice bath after weight training may not be as beneficial for muscle recovery as previously thought. The study, led by Maastricht University’s Milan Betz, involved 12 healthy young men who performed a rigorous leg press and extension exercise session before being subjected to two different cold water immersion treatments: one at 80°F (27°C) and the other at 30°F (-1°C). Researchers found that the ice bath did not provide significant muscle benefits for those focusing on strength training, suggesting alternative recovery methods may be more effective.
