Texans wide receiver Tank Dell suffered a torn ACL and dislocated kneecap during Saturday’s 27-19 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, coach DeMeco Ryans announced Monday.
Dell was initially treated at University of Kansas Hospital and later returned to Houston for further evaluation. His injury occurred when Jared Wayne collided with his knee while making a touchdown catch from quarterback C.J. Stroud in the second half.
This is Dell’s second major leg injury, following a broken leg in his rookie season. The Texans will now rely on players like Nico Collins, John Metchie III, Robert Woods, and Xavier Hutchinson to fill the void in their receiving core, which also lost Stefon Diggs to an ACL injury earlier this season.
The team has added veteran wide receiver Diontae Johnson from the Baltimore Ravens via waivers. Coach Bobby Slowik praised Dell’s unique abilities, saying he is “a bunch of things that make him special.”
Dell finishes the season with 667 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The Texans will face the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas Day without several key starters, including Ward and Mason, who both suffered injuries during Saturday’s game.
