Famed film director Quentin Tarantino has recently opened up about his upcoming West End play, revealing it’s been written and is set to begin production in January. The play, which will take a year and a half to two years of his life, marks the latest addition to Tarantino’s diverse portfolio of projects outside of film.
Tarantino previously stated that this would be his last movie, having explored other mediums such as writing books and a script for an Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood sequel. Now, he’ll be bringing his unique style to the West End stage.
Speculation surrounding the play’s format is rampant, with three potential options emerging. Music could be the key, incorporating Tarantino’s signature soundtracks into a new musical. Alternatively, he might draw inspiration from detective stories like The Mousetrap, paying tribute to London theatre heritage. Another possibility is adapting a successful film into a stage play, such as Maid in Manhattan.
A comedy take on existing hits, like The Play That Goes Wrong, seems likely. Tarantino has expressed interest in writing comic plays, which would allow him to engage the audience and create an immersive experience.
