Target is ending its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs this year amid President Trump’s directive to halt federal DEI efforts. The retailer, which renamed its ‘supplier diversity’ team to ‘supplier engagement,’ faces criticism despite being a company known for inclusivity. While Target invested nearly $2 billion in Black-owned businesses under its REACH initiative, ending DEI goals aligns with broader corporate trends and conservative pushback against such initiatives. The company’s workforce is 56% female and 56% of color, reflecting its commitment to diversity. However, Target has faced backlash for ending long-standing DEI efforts, which included LGBTQ-themed goods during Pride Month. Meanwhile, companies like Walmart have also reduced DEI initiatives. Costco Wholesale recently voted against maintaining its diversity report.
