Target is ending its price-matching policy for items sold by Amazon and Walmart, effective July 28. Under the new policy, Target will only match prices of identical items purchased in-store or online at Target.com if they drop within 14 days.
The change reflects a shift towards industry standards, as Walmart ended its own price-matching policy in 2019. Best Buy remains one of the few retailers that offers price matching on similar products.
Analysts say the move will simplify processes and help protect profits, which have been weakening due to rising costs like tariffs. Target has also been facing challenges from declining sales and consumer boycotts over its diversity and inclusion efforts.
The decision comes as shoppers increasingly prefer shopping at Target for value and trust in pricing, with most opting to purchase products rather than competing prices.
