Leaders of major US ports on the West Coast have sounded the alarm over President Trump’s steep tariffs on Chinese goods, warning that they will bring “radical uncertainty” to the economy. The Port of Long Beach is expected to feel the impact most sharply, with a significant drop in ship traffic and corresponding job losses.
The port’s CEO, Mario Cordero, told reporters that fewer containers arriving at the ports would result in less work for longshoremen, truck drivers, warehouse employees, and retailers nationwide. This decrease in shipping activity will have far-reaching consequences, including higher prices and a ripple effect throughout the broader US economy.
