Taylor Swift made history at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards by becoming the most-decorated winner with a total of 49 career trophies. She won 10 awards, including Top Artist and Top Female Artist, surpassing Drake’s previous record of 42 wins.
Before her performance, Swift took to pre-recorded speech to express gratitude to Billboard and her supporters. “Everything that’s happened with the Eras Tour and ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ I just have to say thank you,” she said. The singer celebrated a milestone birthday on Friday, calling the awards a “nicest early birthday present” she could have received.
Swift has dominated Billboard’s charts in recent years, breaking records for consecutive chart-toppers and album sales. In 2022, she became the first artist to occupy the entire Hot 100 top 10 with songs from “Midnights.” She has continued her winning streak with the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” which broke her own record by claiming the top 14 spots on the Hot 100.
The Billboard Music Awards aired on FOX, with comedian Michelle Buteau serving as host. The show featured performances by Coldplay, Linkin Park, and Shaboozey, among others.
