Taylor Swift opened up about her upcoming 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” during a sit-down with her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce on their podcast “New Heights.” The emotional conversation revealed the couple’s journey to each other and their plans for the new album.
The podcast started just as Swift posted the cover for the album on her website, along with four deluxe versions. However, the YouTube premier hit a glitch about 20 minutes into the viewing. Despite the technical issue, the conversation covered topics beyond music, including Swift’s newfound love of football, baking sourdough loaves, and watching otter videos.
Swift began hinting at the new album during her Eras Tour. She exited the stage down an elevator shaft but walked up on stage instead at the last show, symbolizing a change in era. The imagery for this new era features orange, as seen in Swift’s outfit and door from which she exited.
The 12-track album will feature pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter on one of its tracks. Swift described it as a departure from her previous album, capturing the electric and vibrant atmosphere of the tour while still showcasing her growth as an artist. She emphasized that this is not a re-recording but rather her working on new material.
The podcast also delved into Travis Kelce’s side of the story, which has been widely reported. The Kansas City Chiefs player revealed he wore a friendship bracelet with his number to Swift during the Eras Tour, sparking their relationship. Swift called it a “wild and romantic gesture.”
In an emotional moment, Swift recounted getting teary over her decision to buy back her master recordings from Shamrock Capital. Her brother Jason Kelce was visibly moved by the news.
Swift also discussed how she missed the Eras Tour but felt great that it’s over. She praised her fans for making music events and bonding with each other across generations. The pop singer joked about having LASIK to see everything clearly.
The conversation showcased Swift’s playful side, as well as her dedication to hiding Easter eggs in her speech, which eventually revealed a connection to her upcoming album.
