Taylor Swift, the star behind her record-breaking Eras Tour, was snubbed by the Grammy Awards last night, marking a first in her career where she had six or more nominations without taking home any awards. Despite being one of the most nominated artists with 11th album The Tortured Poets Department among them, Swift left empty-handed.
The decision to overlook Swift’s work was seen as a way for the Recording Academy to allow other artists’ work to be celebrated, given her record-breaking 4 Album of the Year wins in Grammy history. Billie Eilish, a nine-time Grammy winner, also failed to take home any awards despite being nominated in several categories.
Other notable snubs include Post Malone, who had 18 nominations but left with zero wins, and surprise losses for Sabrina Carpenter in the best pop solo performance and best pop vocal album categories. However, there were some surprising winners, including Beyoncé, who broke her own record as the most decorated artist in Grammy awards and won top prize for her country album Cowboy Carter.
The move has sparked conversation about the diversity of nominees and winners at the Grammys, with many calling it a ‘year of sharing’ rather than a year dominated by one or two artists.
