Teams with Most NCAA Transfers Enter Portal

The NCAA Transfer Portal is open for a limited time, allowing teams that played a bowl game within the past five days to make changes. Over 2,000 FBS scholarship players have entered the portal since its reopening on December 9. Here are the top eight schools with the most players entering the transfer portal.

The Arkansas Razorbacks and Oklahoma Sooners lead the list with 30 players each, citing disappointing seasons and coaching changes as reasons for their mass departures. The Arkansas team will be replacing nearly their entire wide receiver room and part-time starting quarterback Jackson Arnold with Washington State transfer John Mateer. In contrast, the Oklahoma team is looking to overhaul its roster after a bowl loss in the 2024 season.

The Arizona Wildcats and Purdue Boilermakers are close behind, each with 29 players entering the portal. The Wildcats have struggled under coach Brent Brennan’s first year, finishing last in points per game, while the Boilermakers had a disastrous 2024 season leading to head coach Ryan Walters’ firing.

Other notable teams with significant departures include Nebraska and Mississippi State, both with 26 players entering the portal. Nebraska has lost key contributors from their defense, but added some key targets on the offensive side. The Bulldogs have played quarterback roulette in the portal, signing a few high-profile transfers including Florida State’s Luke Kromenhoek.

The Utah Utes and Virginia Tech Hokies also see significant losses, each with 24 players entering the transfer portal. The Wolverines at Michigan are looking to upgrade their roster, while Kentucky has lost its two leading receivers in Dane Key and Barion Brown after an abysmal offensive performance this season.
