Tech CEOs Back Trump’s H-1B Visa Fee Plan

Tech leaders Sam Altman (OpenAI) and Jensen Huang (Nvidia) have expressed cautious support for US President Donald Trump’s plan to introduce a $100,000 fee for H-1B visas issued to international talent. The move aims to attract “the brightest minds” to the US, with Altman saying it will help ensure immigration remains a key part of the American Dream. However, some experts warn that the new scheme may disproportionately affect workers from India and China.

Nvidia has announced plans to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI, which aims to deploy 10 gigawatts of AI infrastructure using NVIDIA systems. The White House’s announcement has sparked panic among those impacted by the new visa fee, including Indian employees living in the US and international students seeking jobs. While details are still unclear, tech leaders appear to be backing Trump’s move, with Altman describing it as a “financial incentive.”
