A 15-year-old girl from Lesotho, Southern Africa, recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy after an improbable pregnancy. The teen had oral sex with her ex-lover before being stabbed in the abdomen, leading to the conception.
The patient initially visited the hospital for abdominal pain and was diagnosed with distal vaginal atresia, a rare condition where the vaginal opening is absent or closed. Doctors performed an emergency C-section after administering spinal anesthesia.
An investigation revealed that during her previous hospital visit, she had been stabbed, causing two wounds in her stomach. Sperm she had swallowed through the wounds then migrated to her reproductive organs, resulting in pregnancy.
The unusual situation may be attributed to the acidic environment of the gastrointestinal tract. The low pH level in saliva allows sperm to survive longer than in other areas of the digestive system.
While this case is rare, it highlights the complexities of human reproduction and the potential for unexpected factors to influence conception.
