The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a three-year contract with outfielder Teoscar Hernández, worth $66 million, sources told ESPN on Friday. This reunion reunites the World Series champion with the team he helped win the title.
Hernández, 32, had previously played for the Dodgers on a one-year deal worth $23.5 million after the free agent market undervalued him to sign long-term. He excelled in his first season, hitting .272/.339/.501 with 33 home runs and 99 RBIs. His impressive performance made the risk worthwhile.
The Dodgers have been actively adding talent during the offseason, including signing two-time National League Cy Young winner Blake Snell for five years and $182 million. They also brought back Game 5 hero Blake Treinen on a two-year deal worth $22 million.
Hernández’s addition strengthens an outfield mix that includes Michael Conforto, Andy Pages, Chris Taylor, James Outman, and Tommy Edman. The lineup now boasts multiple big bats, and Hernández’s arrival adds depth to the outfield.
The contract includes a club option for 2028 with a $15 million buyout and $23.5 million in deferred money. Hernández will also receive a $6.5 million signing bonus. The deal reflects the Dodgers’ continued use of deferrals, which allow players to defer portions of their salaries over time. This strategy helps reduce tax burdens, particularly in California.
