Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has reached a three-year contract extension worth up to $96 million, ending his holdout and ensuring he’ll be in uniform for the regular-season opener against the Giants. The deal includes a $30 million signing bonus.
McLaurin had expressed frustration over his value during talks with the team’s front office earlier this offseason. He was eventually placed on the physically unable to perform list due to an ankle injury, but participated in voluntary workouts before being activated from the list in August.
The extension ends speculation surrounding McLaurin’s desire for a trade, which had been linked to Pittsburgh Steelers receiver DK Metcalf. However, McLaurin’s age and the Commanders’ emphasis on analytics likely influenced their decision-making. The team wanted to avoid setting a precedent of overpaying to retain players, as they have several key players up for costly extensions or new deals next offseason.
The deal retains McLaurin as quarterback Jayden Daniels’ favorite target, with which he developed a strong rapport in camp last season. In 2024, McLaurin finished with 82 catches for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns, demonstrating his consistent production. His partnership with Daniels led to a high-QBR of 90.6 when targeting him.
