Terry McLaurin Trade Speculation Continues Amid Contract Talks

Washington Commanders star receiver Terry McLaurin has requested a trade despite ongoing contract negotiations, which may be complicated by his age and the team’s desire to keep him. As the final year of his three-year deal approaches, McLaurin is seeking a new contract on par with top receivers in the league.

The 2025 season will mark McLaurin’s first without the protection of rookie contract rules, and his age has raised concerns about his ability to keep up with the demands of the position. The team has been hesitant to trade him, but offers from other teams have emerged, including the Patriots, 49ers, Chargers, Steelers, and Bills.

The Patriots, who are still rebuilding, seem unlikely to make a serious push for McLaurin, while the 49ers’ proposal, which includes trading WR Brandon Aiyuk, is considered far-fetched. The Chargers are willing to take on McLaurin’s salary, but a short-term deal might be more appealing for both parties.

The Steelers and Bills have also made offers, with the Steelers proposing a trade for Roman Wilson and a 2026 third-round pick, and the Bills suggesting a trade for WR Curtis Samuel and a 2026 fifth-round pick. However, none of these proposals are likely to sway the Commanders, who may gain more leverage in negotiations.

McLaurin’s decision to request a trade comes after skipping minicamp and training camp due to an ankle injury. The team has been willing to offer him a two-year extension worth $30 million per year, but it remains unclear if this is enough to satisfy his demands.
