The NBA is investigating unusual betting patterns surrounding Terry Rozier’s performance in a 2023 game against the New Orleans Pelicans. The league had already looked into the matter and found no wrongdoing, but now it appears that federal prosecutors are involved.
Rozier played only nine minutes of that game before being shut down for the season due to a foot issue. Despite this, some bettors were furious when they realized he wouldn’t return, claiming something “shady” had happened with prop bets involving his stats for the night. The NBA did offer prop bets on Rozier, but took them down hours before the game started.
Rozier is in the third year of a four-year contract worth $96.3 million. This investigation comes after a similar probe into Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter, who was banned for life after disclosing confidential information to sports bettors and wagering on games.
The NBA has been cooperating with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York, which is now looking into this matter. No charges have been filed against Rozier, but the league is taking this investigation seriously.
In the same probe that led to Porter’s ban, the NBA found that he had given confidential information about his health status prior to a game and placed an $80,000 bet on himself not hitting certain numbers in parlays. The specifics of Rozier’s bets are unknown.
