Tesla has delayed the rollout of its conversational AI system, Grok, in Canada due to regulatory barriers. The delay is attributed to Canadian legislation, particularly the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA), which has not yet been passed into law. Despite this, Grok’s developer claims that they are proactively aligning with forthcoming regulations while meeting existing standards.
Grok has prepared risk assessments, built in transparency mechanisms, and is working towards vehicle safety certifications to comply with Transport Canada requirements. Although an exact timeline for the rollout remains unclear, Tesla assures Canadians that it will happen “imminent once cleared.” US customers have already received Grok via a software update.
