The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating Tesla’s remote car control feature following four reported crashes. The preliminary investigation focuses on vehicles that failed to detect posts or parked vehicles when using the feature, leaving users with too little reaction time to avoid accidents.
The NHTSA probe involves approximately 2.6 million affected Tesla models, which will undergo a review of their software and safety protocols. The regulatory agency aims to determine whether the feature poses a significant risk to drivers and passengers.
Tesla’s remote driving feature has been available on some vehicles since last year but has raised concerns among users about its ability to detect obstacles and respond accordingly in emergency situations.
