Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus has introduced its new hands, showcasing the upgrade in a recent post on social media. The update comes after Neuralink announced US FDA approval for its CONVOY Study. In May 2024, Elon Musk stated that Optimus’ hands were being upgraded to have 22 degrees of freedom, compared to human hands which have 27 DoF.
The new hand features were demonstrated as Optimus caught a tennis ball with ease. The upgrade is significant as it allows for more flexible control and interaction. Neuralink’s CONVOY Study approval will enable cross-enrollment between the CONVOY and PRIME studies. The PRIME study has successfully implanted N1 Implants in patients, allowing them to control devices with their minds.
This development marks an exciting milestone for both Tesla and Neuralink as they work towards advancing humanoid robotics and brain-machine interfaces.
