A website recently exposed the personal information of Tesla owners, including their names, addresses, phone numbers, and social media accounts. The site aimed to protest against Elon Musk and the White House DOGE office but has been met with criticism from many owners.
The website displayed a digital map with a Molotov cocktail cursor, revealing locations of Tesla charging stations and dealerships when hovered over. This “doxxing” tactic allowed users to view the private information of others without consent.
Business Insider spoke to eight individuals whose information was listed on the site, including those who had already sold their cars or had outdated information. Three people requested anonymity due to potential harassment.
Tesla representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The source of the data is unclear, but some owners have reported receiving threatening messages and vandalism at dealerships.
The move has sparked debate about the effectiveness of online protests and the consequences of doxxing. Most owners were shaken by the site but felt their safety was not significantly threatened.
Elon Musk has spoken out against recent vandalism, saying it undermines empathy and caring from those who claim to be on the left side of politics. The incident highlights the need for more targeted and constructive forms of protest.
