Tesla Posts Record-Low Q2 Deliveries Amid Backlash Over Musk’s Stance

Tesla has reported its lowest quarterly vehicle deliveries in years, with 384,122 units sold in the second quarter, down 13.5% from the same period last year. The result is in line with lowered expectations and marks Tesla’s second consecutive annual sales decline.

The company’s struggles are attributed to a combination of factors, including Elon Musk’s polarizing political stance and an aging vehicle lineup. As a result, demand for new vehicles has faltered, leading to lower deliveries.

Tesla had initially reported that sales had turned around in April, but the latest numbers reveal a continued decline. The company has also been facing scrutiny over its robotaxi service, which was launched in limited parts of Austin, Texas, last month. However, this move has sparked concerns over safety and regulatory compliance, with the US National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration opening an investigation.

Despite efforts to boost sales through new models and services, analysts expect Tesla to continue struggling this year. To achieve Elon Musk’s target of returning to growth, the company would need to sell more than a million units in the second half, a challenging task considering typically stronger sales during this period.
