The US Department of Justice has filed charges against at least three individuals accused of damaging Tesla property, with prosecutors seeking five-year minimum sentences for those found guilty. Attorney General Pamela Bondi described the incidents as “domestic terrorism” and vowed to impose severe consequences on those involved.
Federal court records show that charges have been filed in Colorado, South Carolina, and Oregon against three people who allegedly vandalized Tesla properties. In Colorado, a woman was charged with malicious destruction of property after spraying graffiti on a dealership sign and attempting to set fire to a Cybertruck. In South Carolina, a man faced similar charges for spray-painting anti-Trump slogans and trying to light a Tesla charger on fire.
In Oregon, a man was charged with possession of an unregistered explosive device after shooting empty vehicles at a Tesla dealership and throwing Molotov cocktails into the lot. The incidents were reported in January and February, but no one was injured or killed.
The DOJ’s actions come after President Donald Trump pledged to charge protesters as “domestic terrorists” during a recent press conference promoting Tesla vehicles. However, it appears that none of the individuals facing federal charges have connections to the “Tesla Takedown” movement, which describes itself as a peaceful protest movement opposing Musk’s policies.
The US Attorney General has announced that the Department of Justice will take a strong stance against those who engage in vandalism and property damage, with severe consequences for those found guilty.
