A “Tesla Takedown” protest took place in downtown Chicago on Saturday, with hundreds of people gathering to voice their frustration with Elon Musk’s government efficiency initiatives. The protesters, mostly from the Near North Side and surrounding suburbs, claimed that Musk’s actions have led to government overreach and erosion of social programs.
The crowd chanted slogans and held signs that read “Elon is not our president” and “Don’t dismantle our government.” Chicago resident Tina Smothers said, “We need elected officials, not Elon Musk, making decisions about our government.”
Similar protests were reported in Westmont and Northbrook, with groups gathering to express their concerns over the impact of Musk’s policies on critical programs like social security and Medicaid. Protestor Ben Paige stated, “I’m here to protest the executive branch that’s dismantling all of our government systems.”
The protest remained peaceful, with attendees demanding accountability from Musk and his administration. Highland Park resident Mark Portman added, “We need to protect our government systems and ensure they serve the American people, not just Elon Musk’s agenda.”
