Tesla’s sales in Europe continue to plummet, with registrations down 41.6% in July compared to the same period last year. Despite a surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales across the continent, the automaker is struggling to compete with established brands and new entrants.
In the first half of 2025, Tesla’s sales had already declined by 10%, with year-to-date losses reaching 34.3%. The decline appears to be accelerating in most European markets, including Germany and France, where the reduction in annual sales could reach up to 20,000 units this year.
Tesla’s UK market, however, saw a relatively steeper decline of 60% in July compared to the previous year. The company’s struggles in Europe are concerning, given that EV sales are surging across the continent.
CEO Elon Musk recently claimed that Tesla’s sales will surge back up once supervised self-driving technology is allowed. However, it remains to be seen whether this statement will materialize into reality. For now, Tesla’s primary challenge in Europe appears to be competition from established brands and new entrants, which are capitalizing on lower tariffs and a wider range of EV options.
As the situation in Europe continues to deteriorate, it is unclear when or if Tesla’s decline will come to an end.
