A series of nationwide incidents targeting Tesla electric vehicles, dealerships, storage lots, and charging stations have raised concerns across the country. Since January 2025, at least nine states have seen arson, gunfire, vandalism, and graffiti expressing grievances against perceived racists, fascists, or political opponents.
The FBI has warned the public to “exercise vigilance” near Tesla properties, citing “lone offenders” who use rudimentary tactics like improvised incendiary devices and firearms. The agency urges people to report suspicious activity to authorities, as these crimes may be linked to domestic terrorism.
Notably, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk was appointed by President Donald Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has laid off tens of thousands of federal employees. Some incidents appear to be related to protests against DOGE and its cuts.
The FBI advises individuals to be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activities immediately. To report a threat, people can contact an FBI field office or call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
