Tesla’s Autopilot Fails Safety Tests on School Bus Mockups

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system has faced criticism after it failed to safely navigate through school bus mockups in recent tests. Conducted by anti-Tesla groups The Dawn Project and ResistAustin, the trial involved an autonomous Tesla Model Y running through flashing lights and stop signs, repeatedly hitting child-size mannequins. The test was repeated eight times, highlighting concerns about the system’s readiness for public use.

Tesla’s FSD software is designed to require a human driver’s attention and will display warning messages. However, previous incidents have raised questions about its reliability. In April 2024, a Tesla Model S using FSD was involved in a fatal crash in Washington that killed a motorcyclist. Amid concerns about safety, Elon Musk has hinted at potential delays for the company’s upcoming Cybercab rollout on June 22.

Musk recently posted on X, stating that Tesla is taking “super paranoid” safety precautions, which may impact the initial date. Additionally, he announced that a self-driving Tesla will be delivered to customers starting June 28. As the public awaits news about the Cybercab’s release, these recent tests have sparked renewed scrutiny of Tesla’s FSD system and its readiness for widespread adoption.
