Tesla’s China FSD Update Sparks Mixed Reactions and Disappointment

Tesla has launched a limited version of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) features in China, offering some advanced driver-assist systems to Chinese market users. The ‘2024.45.32.12’ update brings Autopilot features like automatic lane changing and traffic light detection to the region. However, owners are expressing disappointment that the capabilities still fall short of what was promised.

The update aims to optimize navigation on urban roads and includes a cabin camera feature that reminds drivers to focus on the road when using intelligent assisted driving systems. While some owners welcome progress, others feel it doesn’t meet the self-driving standards set by competitors at lower prices.

Tesla’s high pricing and delayed updates have also fueled concerns among customers. Lu Panpan, a Tesla owner in China, stated that the company has no choice but to deliver “knowingly restricted” systems, given its limited capabilities compared to Chinese cars. The FSD package, which costs around $7,720, was initially promised to deliver self-driving capability, but owners are now getting less.

Despite these criticisms, CEO Elon Musk claims Tesla will release full self-driving capability in most markets within the next year. A recent report suggests another update is planned for later this year with improved capacity. As Tesla continues to push its FSD technology, it’s essential to separate fact from hype and understand the capabilities of each system.
