Elon Musk’s vision for a retro-futuristic diner is finally taking shape in Los Angeles. The unique eatery, designed by Stantec, features curved walls and windows flanked by two outdoor film screens that resemble a flying saucer. Construction began in September 2023 and has progressed rapidly.
The diner will boast white charging stations above the pavement, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. Elevated screens showing films lasting about half an hour will be displayed on the premises, mirroring the time it takes to charge a Tesla vehicle. The building permit application filed in 2022 detailed this feature.
Behind the diner’s façade, quilted moving blankets cover circular banquettes. A notable discovery was made when the Tesla app was updated with code for a diner menu in January. For months, Musk has been courting well-known chefs to provide food for the restaurant.
Despite initial optimism, tensions surrounding the project have increased over recent controversies, including anti-Musk protests and a 50% drop in Tesla’s stock price. However, construction continues to move forward as designed by Stantec. The retro-futuristic diner is set to become a unique dining experience in Los Angeles.
