The University of Texas will host Clemson in its first-ever College Football Playoff game at Royal-Memorial Stadium on December 21st. As the No. 5 seed, Texas (11-2) will face off against No. 12 seeded Clemson (10-3). The winner will advance to play Arizona State (11-2) in the quarterfinals.
Texas comes off an overtime loss to Georgia in Saturday’s SEC championship game, which awarded it a spot in the playoff. The Longhorns were initially expected to receive a first-round bye but lost out due to Georgia earning the No. 2 seed.
This will be Texas’ second appearance in the College Football Playoff. Last year, the team qualified for the four-team playoff but was eliminated by Washington.
In the College Football Playoff (CFP), the top conference champions and highest-ranked teams receive first-round byes and are seeded first through fourth. The remaining teams are matched up with at-large selections, with higher-seeded teams hosting lower-seeded opponents on their home field or a field of their choice.
The playoff consists of four rounds, with the quarterfinals taking place in different bowl games across the country. The winners will play each other, while those who lose will have a bye to regroup.
Texas is set to face Clemson at Royal-Memorial Stadium on December 21st. The game will be televised on TNT and can be purchased through official ticket sellers.
