The US measles outbreak, declared eliminated in 2000, has surged to its worst levels in years. Almost 500 cases across 21 states have been confirmed by the end of March, a staggering 360 per cent increase from the previous week. The Covenant Children’s hospital in Lubbock, Texas, is treating several patients who contracted measles despite having elevated vitamin A levels, causing abnormal liver function. Reports of similar cases have also emerged in neighboring New Mexico, highlighting the severity of the outbreak. This surge has raised concerns about the effectiveness of current treatments and sparked debates over the use of vitamin A as a treatment for measles.
