US company Texas Instruments has announced a massive investment of over $60 billion to expand semiconductor manufacturing in the United States. The seven new plants will be built across Texas and Utah, creating more than 60,000 jobs, according to the company.
The investment is part of the White House’s efforts to promote American manufacturing and stay ahead of China in the technology industry. TI has partnered with tech giants like Apple, Nvidia, and Ford, and claims this is the largest investment in foundational semiconductor manufacturing in US history.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the partnership will support US chip manufacturing for decades to come. However, some experts question whether reviving US manufacturing can overcome challenges such as labor skills and component shortages.
