Texas Investigates Hundreds of Potentially Non-Citizen Voters

Texas authorities are reviewing hundreds of registered voters who may not be U.S. citizens – a tiny fraction of all people on the local voter rolls. The state has flagged 2,700 potentially non-citizens, with Dallas and Tarrant counties being among those affected. Elections staff will send notices to these individuals, giving them 30 days to prove their citizenship or be removed from the rolls.

Texas is using a national database called SAVE to verify voter eligibility, but critics warn about privacy and accuracy concerns. The state is also checking for cases where registrations should have been rejected due to inaccurate information. Non-citizen voting is rare and illegal, despite some claims that undocumented immigrants could sway elections.
