Houston attorney Tony Buzbee faces two lawsuits filed in a Louisiana federal court, alleging that his law firm pocketed settlement money through unethical accounting practices. Buzbee has dismissed the claims as “patently frivolous,” saying they were designed to harm his reputation and undermine his firm’s role in representing alleged sexual assault victims.
Two former clients, Adam Guidry and Matthew Ray Thompson, have filed lawsuits against Buzbee, alleging that he took advantage of them by not explaining expenses or paying them according to the Jones Act. Guidry claims he received only $5,123 from a $350,000 settlement, while Thompson alleges he was paid through high-interest loans.
Buzbee has reported the alleged misconduct to authorities and expects disciplinary action against those involved. However, the lawyer has not shared evidence of his clients’ agreement with the accounting practices, despite claiming to have done so. Buzbee plans to file a lawsuit in response to the allegations this week.
