The Texas Longhorns have advanced to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff (CFP) with a thrilling 39-31 double-overtime win over Arizona State at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Quarterback Quinn Ewers played a crucial role in the team’s comeback victory, throwing two touchdown passes in the second overtime.
Despite struggling in the first half, Texas’s offense improved as the game progressed, and Ewers showed remarkable grit in leading his team to multiple fourth-quarter drives. In one such drive, he connected with tight end Matthew Golden for a 28-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-13 in the first overtime.
However, Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo started to find his groove in the third quarter, allowing the Sun Devils to tie the score late in regulation. It was then that safety Andrew Mukuba came up big, intercepting a Sam Leavitt pass with 5:55 remaining in the second overtime to seal the victory.
Coach Steve Sarkisian praised his team’s resilience after the game, saying “when our backs are against the wall and when our best is needed, our best shows up time and time again.” Mukuba, who transferred from Clemson last season, was instrumental in the Longhorns’ win, highlighting the team’s ability to come together in crucial moments.
The Texas Longhorns will now face Ohio State in the semifinals of the CFP at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl.
