A Texas man, Lucio Catarino Diaz, has been sentenced to six years in prison after infecting multiple employees at a Houston medical office with sexually transmitted diseases by contaminating their drinking water.
Diaz, 53, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was charged with spiking the office’s drinking water dispenser with his bodily fluids, which carried his Herpes simplex virus type 1 and chlamydia.
The victim discovered an unusual taste and smell in her bottled water, prompting her to investigate. She eventually caught Lucio Diaz on camera, who admitted to intentionally contaminating the water bottles.
As a result, multiple employees were diagnosed with STDs, including the employee whose water was spiked, who later tested positive for Herpes simplex virus type 1. The judge credited Diaz with two years of his sentence, and he still faces several civil suits related to the incident.
