The Astorian Relocates to Marine Drive After 56 Years

The Astorian is moving from its historic headquarters at 949 Exchange St. after nearly 56 years. Starting July 8, the publication will be based at 901 Marine Drive. Publisher John Bruijn stated that the new location provides more visibility within the community and a stronger presence.

The paper has undergone several name changes and address shifts over the years. Founded in 1873 as the “Tri-Weekly Astorian,” it was originally located in The Monitor Building. In 1884, the name changed to “The Weekly Astorian.” Later, the paper became known by various other names, including “Evening Budget” and “Morning Astorian,” before settling at its current address.

The building at Ninth and Exchange St., where The Astorian operated from 1970 to 2025, was designed in a Brutalist style. The architectural firm behind it is notable for designing other prominent buildings in the area.

Despite the move, The Astorian remains committed to local journalism, with Editor Jeanne Huff emphasizing its commitment to pursuing local stories and serving readers.
