Canadian-American rock band The Band has lost its last surviving member, Garth Hudson. Hudson passed away on Tuesday, according to a statement from his friend Jan Haust. He was born in Ontario and began writing music at a young age. Hudson joined The Band in the 1960s, one of the few Canadians among its members. Before joining the band, he performed with various artists, including the English band The Call and Van Morrison.
The Band gained fame after collaborating with Bob Dylan on his historic tours in the mid-1960s. After breaking away from their folk roots, they created some of the most iconic music of that era. Hudson’s passing marks a significant loss for the music world, following the deaths of founding members Robbie Robertson (2023), Richard Manuel (1986), Rick Danko (1999), and Levon Helm (2012). The Band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
