The Batman 2 has once again been delayed by a year and will now be released in theaters on October 1, 2027. Originally set for October 2025, the Matt Reeves’ sequel was postponed twice before this latest delay. If this date stands, it will mark five years since Robert Pattinson took on the role of the Dark Knight.
James Gunn, co-CEO of the new DCU, weighed in on Twitter, citing examples from other franchises like Alien and Avengers, which experienced significant gaps between films. Reeves confirmed that Colin Farrell will reprise his role as The Penguin, while The Batman 2 exists outside the larger DCU and forms its own “Batman Epic Crime Saga.”
Taking The Batman 2’s place is an untitled Alejandro González Iñárritu film starring Tom Cruise, along with Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed. This new project follows a protagonist who must prove his worth as humanity’s savior before disaster strikes.
Other DC films have also experienced significant delays: Pattinson’s Mickey 17 has moved to March 7, 2025, while Sinners now takes the April 18, 2025, slot. Fans can look forward to more news on The Penguin and other upcoming DC films, including Superman, which is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
