“The Better Sister” Falls Flat in Prime Video’s Latest Thriller Series

Jessica Biel stars as Chloe, a seemingly perfect working woman whose life is crumbling beneath the surface. When her husband dies under mysterious circumstances, Chloe’s world unravels. However, the real twist comes when it’s revealed that her sister Nicky (Elizabeth Banks) is Adam’s ex-wife and biological mother of their son.

Despite a promising concept, “The Better Sister” fails to deliver. The mystery never reaches new heights, instead relying on predictable tropes and formulaic storytelling. Elizabeth Banks shines as the complex and empathetic Nicky, but her character deserves more depth and gravity.

While the cinematography is striking, the performances from the rest of the cast are stilted, with only Kim Dickens’ Detective Nancy Guidry bringing much-needed life to the series. The show’s reliance on clichés and predictable plot twists makes it feel like a lesser miniseries compared to iconic shows like “Sharp Objects” and “Mare of Easttown.”
