Bethesda Game Studios’ 2006 RPG, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, has been remastered and released on all supported platforms today. A recent livestream featuring developer sound bites and gameplay footage revealed the game’s official status after years of leaks.
As a precursor to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Oblivion was an early modern classic that showcased character customization and emergent gameplay mechanics. Although less structured than Skyrim, Oblivion offers robust character development with a more accessible design.
The port was handled by Virtuos, in collaboration with Bethesda Game Studios. Known for their work on Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, and Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection, Virtuos has contributed to several successful remaster efforts and ports.
Note that the Oblivion Remastered is a remaster, not a remake, utilizing Unreal Engine for presentation aspects while maintaining Bethesda’s proprietary Creation Engine for gameplay logic and systems.
