The Game Awards, now celebrating its 10-year anniversary, has achieved a record-breaking viewership of 154 million global livestreams for its 2024 show on December 12. This marks a significant increase of 31% compared to the 2023 event, which drew an estimated 118 million global livestreams.
The 2024 show featured streams across multiple platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, Steam, TikTok Live, X, Instagram Live, and Facebook. The event also expanded its reach globally, with record numbers of platforms streaming in China, South Korea, and Japan.
Unlike other high-profile awards shows, the indie event hosted by gaming industry star Geoff Keighley does not have an exclusive streaming deal. This allowed for a diverse range of platforms to broadcast the show.
The top winner of the 2024 Game Awards was “Astro Bot” from Team Asobi and PlayStation, which won four awards, including Game of the Year. Other notable winners included “Metaphor: ReFantanzio” and “Balatro.”
The show featured a star-studded lineup of presenters, including Aaron Paul, Ella Purnell, and Khalid, as well as musical performances by Twenty One Pilots and Snoop Dogg.
In comparison to previous years, the 2024 Game Awards saw an increase in peak concurrent viewers, with more than 4 million viewers combined across platforms outside of Asian and Pacific territories. This represents a 10% rise from the 2023 event.
The show was executive produced by host Geoff Keighley and Kimmie Kim, with Richard Preuss serving as director and LeRoy Bennett as creative director. Michael E. Peter co-executive produced the event.
