A Los Angeles-based mall owner, Rick Caruso’s company, The Grove, has filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles and the developer of the neighboring Television City studio lot project. The complaint cites California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) violations and alleges that the project would increase traffic, causing backups on nearby streets.
The Grove, which owns several surrounding businesses, claims that the city’s approval process was unclear and did not adequately address concerns about the project’s impact on the community. However, the developer, Hackman Capital Partners, disputes this claim, stating that the project underwent lengthy review processes and received unanimous approvals from the city at each stage.
The lawsuit is not unique, as other groups, including Community Groups Beverly Wilshire Homes Association and Save Beverly Fairfax, have also filed complaints against the project’s approvals. The Original Farmers Market entity has also joined in, citing concerns about traffic, parking problems, pollution, and other negative impacts on the community.
Caruso has stated that his company supports the entertainment industry but emphasizes the need for good neighbors and acknowledges potential harm from the project without changes being made to mitigate these effects.
